About Us In 30 Seconds

What You Actually Want To Know About Us In 30 Seconds.

We’re a family. We believe in the power of relationships – with our clients, vendors, and each other – that are rooted in compassion and mutual respect. Period.

How we roll. We are a diverse group who strive to bring creativity into the workplace, allowing us to embrace inevitable change and growth. We collaborate daily with each other as well as our clients – for example, our unique in-house payment plans that truly impact our doctor’s ability to provide our clients and patients access to flexible, comprehensive care.

Not your typical model. We dared to be different, and found our sweet spot by blending a non-corporate approach to practicing veterinary medicine while still reaping the benefits and efficiencies of a traditional corporate structure. Simply put, we do corporate better.

Homegrown doesn’t mean left behind. We opened our first location in 1984, so you can imagine all the things we’ve learned over the years. The AZPetVet family has grown to include 21 small animal general practice hospitals in the Greater Phoenix Metro area, each locally owned and operated. Our facilities are state-of-the-art, and built upon the principal of providing outstanding care and high-quality medicine.

That’s a bit about us in 30 seconds, so let’s talk about you. (We’re going to need at least a minute or two though…)

Investing In You

We know you… because we’ve been you.

AZPetVet was started by, is run by, and owned by – veterinarians just like you.

Investing In You

We passionately believe in the power of the collective whole, and that together we are truly better. Each and every team member has something to contribute, and it’s our job to ensure that everyone in our organization has the opportunity to learn, grow, and collaborate. Specifically for our doctors, here’s what we want you to know:

  • Welcome aboard. From your first day as part of our family, our doctor on-boarding program is structured, specific, and designed to make sure you are feeling comfortable and set up for success. We paddle together.
  • It’s about the long haul. As much as we’d love it to be true, you didn’t actually learn everything you needed to in kindergarten. We believe learning is a life-long opportunity. From general medical procedures to dentistry, surgery, and other specialized areas, the opportunity to advance your skills by working alongside seasoned doctors is available to you…indefinitely. Mentorship and training don’t have an expiration date.
  • The right environment. Whether it’s a classroom style structure or a ‘hands-on with the pros’ type of engagement, we embrace both traditional and non-traditional approaches to Continuing Education. Internally sponsored CE combined with a generous annual CE allowance ensures that learning opportunities are available year-round. One size doesn’t fit all.
  • A slice of the pie. The structure of our organization is truly one of a kind, and we provide the opportunity of partnership for doctors interested in owning a piece of the business. What really makes us unique is that we also provide access to the tools necessary to make partnership a reality. So, what does that mean exactly? First, running a business is tough – and here, you don’t do it alone. With nearly 50 partners in our organization, you have peer-to-peer leadership support and mentorship available to help ensure success. Second, the strategic relationship we have built with our banking partner provides the financial ability to obtain partnership significantly earlier in your career than a more traditional model. Delicious.

You’ve Earned It

Becoming a veterinarian is a significant accomplishment; you’ve likely put literal blood, sweat, and tears into your journey thus far. As an organization started – and still owned – by veterinarians, we truly understand first-hand what you have been through. Our comprehensive approach to compensation is designed to ensure you are paid fairly and with respect for the value you’re adding to the organization from the start.

  • The best of both worlds. Our salary ranges are not based solely on production (we’re not ProSal). Our comprehensive approach means you’re well compensated for your hard work, client focus, and collaboration without competing for cases.
  • Show me the money! Whether you’re a new graduate or an experienced doctor, we know that career transitions can be a lot to manage. To help ease the experience, we are proud to welcome you to our family with a signing bonus and a relocation allowance (if relocation is needed).
  • You are covered. We offer all the traditional benefits you would expect (paid membership fees and license dues, health and wellness benefits) PLUS professional liability, life, and long-term disability insurance policies, short-term disability insurance policy (includes maternity leave), monthly student loan repayment program, a generous 401(k) employer match, and an incredible discount plan for personal pet medical care.

Find Your Balance

You’ve heard the saying ‘work hard, play hard’, and that mantra is something that we embrace. An organization with happy, well-rounded team members is a successful one; it’s the place that people want to be. So how do we help achieve that culture within our family?

  • The choice is yours. Our standard full-time schedule is 4 days per week, providing you with full benefits, lunch breaks, and so on. If at any point you’re looking to earn some extra income, you have the flexibility to pick up additional days as you wish.
  • Find your pack. We are ‘a family of animal hospitals’ in so many ways. Professionally, you have immediate access to more than 125 doctors who are available to provide input and collaboration on everything from medical records to lab work, x-rays, and unique cases. Personally, you will get to know many others with similar interests. From movie buffs to art aficionados, foodies to outdoor enthusiasts, we’ve got a huge array of passions, interests, and dynamics weaved throughout our family.

  • Time sensitive. Time is valuable, and we strive to be an organization that you enjoy sharing yours with. And when it’s time for you to be focused outside of the office, our collaborative approach to patient care means that there is no coming in on your days off; your colleagues have you covered. We provide a generous allotment of annual vacation, CE, and paid holidays that we want you to use! Taking time to relax and recharge is vital; our responsibility to the health and wellness of our team is something we don’t take lightly.

  • Things change. One thing we can always count on is that life changes along the way, and one size doesn’t fit all. When you join our team, we can help you find the right fit from a variety of hospital sizes and locations here in the valley. And as your life inevitably changes, we work to change with you, from flexible scheduling to opportunities to relocate across the valley. With multiple team members who’ve been part of our organization for more than 30 years (and many with 20+), clearly we want you to stick around!

We’re looking for those interested in building lasting relationships, seeking to make a difference in the veterinary community, and focused on nurturing the human-animal bond. So the real question is… what are you looking for?

1st and 2nd Year Students

Summer Student Program

The Summer Student Immersion Program was launched in 2021 with the goal of providing students with a 4-week peek behind the curtain of small animal general practice. The program runs during June and July of your first two years. You will be able to learn more about typical caseloads, technical skills, surgery, medicine, client communication, and daily operations of a general practice before your clinical year and becoming a practicing veterinarian. A structured guide will be provided that will allow for direction but also flexibility to tailor to you and the cases presenting to your clinic. Bonus – it’s a paid position! And if you enjoy your time in our clinic so much that you don’t want to leave after 4 weeks, you don’t have to! It is an easy transition into a seasonal or part-time position allowing you to continue as an AZPetVet paid and trained technician.

I learned an incredible amount during my time at Roadrunner. I have only ever worked at one other hospital so being exposed to a new work style and different doctors was a great experience. I was exposed to such a wide variety of cases during my time at Roadrunner and the doctors all made sure to include me in cases that were unique. One of the best things about this experience at Roadrunner was the staff. I loved working with every single person at the hospital and everyone could not have been nicer. I can’t forget to mention Dr. Evans teaching me “IT SWIVELS!”

~ C.R.

I really enjoyed the hands-on experience that I received as well as the mentorship from several of the doctors. The hands on in surgery (scrubbing in to assist) helped apply what I learned in my anatomy courses, and really helped solidify the information in my head. I also really appreciated that the doctors were so open to answering all my hundreds of questions, and even appreciated my suggestions for things since I have a lot of experience as a technician.

3rd and 4th Year Students

EXTERNSHIPS

Are you looking for small animal general practice experience? We host veterinary student externs at each of our 21 locations. We have been asked, why do we do it? Nothing is more rejuvenating than seeing the passion for veterinary medicine through fresh eyes! We love the excitement that comes with seeing a new case. We pride ourselves in delivering high-quality medicine and one way to keep our medicine up to date is to have students and new doctors on our teams. You are invited to join our team for 2 weeks (or more!) and be part of a culture that is client focused, collaborative, and compassionate.

Dr. Berthiaume and Dr. Casler were amazing mentors and always made sure that I was involved in the cases. They allowed me to help with procedures and I appreciated that experience very much. Being able to observe them with clients was also a great learning experience.

~ L.D.

I really enjoyed everyone’s positive attitude and willingness to help me learn. Another thing that I really enjoyed about this externship, is the fact that there are many doctors on staff. I was able to shadow most of the doctors and learned how each individual practiced veterinary medicine. I definitely learned a lot during this externship and the staff treated me with respect. I highly recommend students to rotate at this location!

~ K.B.
